Fx cues - add/remove fixtures... What am I missing?

So let's say I have a total of 8 LED strips, but will use various amounts of them at different times depending on the set and stage layout. They each have 12 RGB LEDs that are individually controllable (i.e. 36 channels each), like 12 "pixels" each. I create various intensity or color Fx cues for them using fan and various groupings (mirror per, block of, etc.).

My issue is that I've had to create separate sets of Fx cues specifically for each number of strips I use. I'm wondering if I'm missing something. If I create an Fx cue I REALLY like when I'm using all 8, I can't use that same cue when I'm using 6 strips because the Fx values are distributed over 8 strips in the cue so of course it doesn't look the same with only 6 strips. So I have to completely re-create the same effect with just the 6 strips selected and store it in a separate cue. So I end up with a bunch of 8 strip Fx cues, 7 strip Fx cues, 6 strip Fx cues, etc., etc. - all of which are basically the same Fx but just built for the different number of strips.

I'm wondering if I'm missing a better way where I can just create an Fx cue once and then, if I like it, just make a simple adjustment to re-use it whenever I change the number of strips I'm using.

Let's say for example that I am using all strips, #1-#8, and I create a fanned wave intensity Fx cue at mirror per 2 so that the wave is going from each end and meeting right in the middle (where #3 and #4 come together).

Then, a few weeks later we change to using only #1-#7 of the strips for a while. If I use that same cuelist the wave will not meet in the middle because the fan values and wave in that cue are dispersed across all 8 strips and I'm only using 7. It still meets where #3 and #4 come together, but that is not the middle for just 7 strips (the middle would instead be the center of #3).

Is it possible and, if so, what is the quickest and/or easiest way to adjust that cuelist to re-distribute the Fx values across just strips #1-#7 instead of all 8 that it was originally built with? So the effect is essentially the same (waving from the edges to the exact middle), but now spread across 7 strips with the middle at the center of #3 - instead of 8 strips with the middle where #3 and #4 come together).

Or the other way - adding strips. For example if I am only using #1-#5 for a while and build some Fx cues that I like a lot, then after a few weeks we change to using all 8 for a while. Can I, and if so how, modify those Fx cues that I liked to add #6-#8 and re-distribute the Fx fanning/timing/etc. values evenly across all 8 so that the effect is still the same, just now spread across 8 strips instead of 5.

I hope my examples and explanations make at least some sense, and you can understand what I'm trying to do and asking.

Thanks.

Joel
